System Administration

Servers, virtualization, backup and monitoring, so your IT runs and you can focus on your business.

When you just want the server to work

Many businesses have a server, a NAS or a few virtual machines, but no one who looks after them regularly. Updates pile up, backups run unchecked, and an outage only becomes noticeable once nothing works anymore.

I take over the ongoing administration: predictable, documented and with fixed availability hours. You stay in control without having to become an administrator yourself.

Why now?

Many businesses have a server but no one who regularly checks updates and backups. An outage then only becomes noticeable once nothing works anymore.

Based on experience from ongoing support work; not a statistic.

Service

What I take care of

Windows and Linux servers
Setting up, securing and running Windows Server and Linux (Debian, Ubuntu): users, shares, services, permissions.
Virtualization with Proxmox
Setting up and running Proxmox VE: virtual machines and containers, snapshots, resource planning, migration of legacy systems.
Backup and recovery
Backup concept following the 3-2-1 rule, automated backups, regular test restores with a log.
Monitoring
Monitoring of services, storage space, certificates and backups, with alerts before your staff notice anything.
Patch management
Security updates for operating systems and applications in fixed maintenance windows, with a snapshot fallback option.
Remote maintenance
Encrypted remote access for maintenance and support. On-site visits in Nordhessen when hardware is involved.
NAS and file storage
Setting up Synology or TrueNAS: shares with permissions, versioning against accidental deletion, backing up the NAS itself.
Migrating legacy systems
Moving old servers into virtual machines without stopping operations. The legacy system stays available as a fallback until sign-off.
Switching from VMware to Proxmox VE
When license costs have risen: taking over virtual machines, rebuilding backup and snapshots, switching over in a maintenance window.

Process

How it works

  1. Assessment

I look at your servers, services and backups and note what is running, what is missing and what is risky.

  2. Concept and proposal

You receive a short written recommendation with priorities and effort involved, in plain language.

  3. Implementation

Setup in agreed maintenance windows, so your business keeps running. Every change is documented.

  4. Ongoing support

A fixed maintenance flat fee or time-and-materials billing. The documentation stays up to date and stays with you.

Who it's for

Who this is for

  • Businesses with 5 to 50 workstations without their own IT department
  • Medical practices, law firms and trade businesses with their own server or NAS
  • Companies wanting to switch from an anonymous provider to a fixed point of contact
  • Owners who want readable documentation of their systems
